Charges Marked As ‘Insurance Only’

Charges Marked As ‘Insurance Only’

by abilling, May 1, 2013

Just as a friendly reminder, you are legally obligated to collect any insurance assigned patient responsibilities, including coinsurance, deductible and/or copay.  You should not take ‘insurance only’ for ANY patient.  If patients are not required to pay their obligation, they are more likely to abuse the system.  The only time a provider can provide a write-off of patient responsibilities is in the case of a proven and written financial hardship.   By taking insurance only, without a financial hardship, you are creating a possible civil and/or criminal liability.

If you wish to discuss this further or have questions, please do not hesitate to contact Stephanie Kurtz at (316) 281-3710.
